Pichai explained in front of the House Judiciary Committee that Google doesn’t “manually intervene” in search results. Instead, search results are based on crawling the content of web pages. He clarifies in detail that Google crawls billions of pages in the index and takes keywords. It matches them against the pages and ranks them based on over 200 signals.
The House committee held a hearing to discuss if the search results of Google are politically slanted. Rep. Lamar Smith claimed that Google is suppressing conservative search results and they have irrefutable evidence to it.
